Welcome to the Chair of Agricultural and Food Policy at the Institute of Agricultural Policy and Markets at the University of Hohenheim

The teaching and research activities and contributions to the public debate focus on description, understanding and design of German, European and international agricultural and food polices in a globalized world.

We aim for innovative solutions to global challenges to the agricultural and food sector and the bioeconomy and we aim to inspire students of the University of Hohenheim with innovative teaching approaches.

We achieve our objectives by applying empirically based, interdisciplinary and innovative political and economic research methodologies and a research-driven teaching approach.

Public lecture series in the summer semester 2024

 

The Scientific Advisory Board of the BMEL is organising an online lecture series this summer semester on Mondays from 4 to 5:30 pm on the topic of the last report on "Neue Sorgfaltspflichten für Unternehmen des Agrar- und Ernährungssektors: Empfehlungen zu aktuellen Gesetzesentwicklungen".

The first lecture of the series starts on 22 April and every week a different aspect of the topic will be presented together with guest speakers from business, NGOs and administration.

    The current food and energy crisis requires innovative solutions that do not lead to new trade-offs. Agrivoltaics allow to produce food and energy on the same land and thus can contribute to food and energy security. However, it was unknown to what degree shading impacts crop yields – which is needed to optimize agrivoltaic systems and to conduct economic analyses. A new meta-analysis published in “Agronomy for Sustainable Development” authored by institute staff members and fellow Hohenheim researcher now quantify the yield responses to shading.

    Craig Chibanda, a doctoral researcher with the University of Hohenheim , has been selected to join the World Food Forum Young Scientists Group (YSG). The main objective of the Young Scientists Group (YSG) is to provide scientific evidence and technical knowledge to the various initiatives of the World Food Forum, and to develop an annual WFF Young Scientists report on specific policy issues of particular concern to youth, related to agrifood systems transformation.

    Dr. Feuerbacher received the Josef G. Knoll European Science Award for his dissertation "Economy-wide modelling of seasonal labour and natural resource policies".The prize was awarded by the fiat panis foundation during the Tropentag conference in Hohenheim on September 9th, 2020. The jury highlights that Dr. Feuerbacher's research on rural labour markets and policy analysis is "of high practical relevance for millions of poor people living in the tropics".
